DAN'S LUX...secondary fuel filter, piece of mind at last

PostPosted: Sun, 03 Apr 2011 1:17 +0000

OK here we go, its sunday and im bored, ive had my lux of 2 weeks now and so far its being AWESOME :D
i bought it as a 2006 dual cab SR D4D auto with 28000kms on it so its barely run in ;)
after seeing mmaxx's lux on a tacoma forum that was it for me and started digging round for ideas and hats possible and not possible to do to ones of these new shape hilux's, this is when i stumbled across this forum and its being all downhill for my bank acccount from there

some of the mods that were already done to it when i bought it were
-Polaris reverse camera (which currently isnt working properly)
-Pirahna dual battery system
-steinbeauer module
-freds 4wd conversions add a coil in the rear (this was done for towing by the previous owner)
-GME UHF, the one with the remote face
-factory side steps
-factory chrome bullbar
-flexiglass canopy
-power socket in the tray
-towbar
-anderson plug at rear of tub
-electric brake controller
-safari snorkel
-canvas seat covers
-225/70r16 hankook ATR's

this is what she looked like when i first picked her up

this is the add a coil

as soon as i knew i was buying the Hilux i started to buy my future mods so i would have a gradual decline of my bank account instead of a huge hit in the matter of a week, so i got into Max and he hooked me up with a XROX tube bar and bashplate thanks to Monster Rides, wheels and tyres were in order so i spoke to the DARRA tyres who we use at work and the got me some 285/75r16 10ply HANKOOK MTR's x5...i had a massive argument with the boss when i ordered '0' offset rims and they sent me 20P, but the king rim dealer who i again argued with on the phone assured me that this offset will work with these tyres with minimal scrub so i thought i would give it a try, i can always buy new rims if need be...

Image

Image

Image

now running this width tyre i was obviously going to need flares so i gave leon at utemart a call and he sorted me out with some 160mm flares, awesome service from this bloke aye, i orded them on wednesday morning and they turned up thursday lunchtime...very good product and super simple to fit aswell

this is the lux with the flares fitted, looks a bit odd with the sr rims and cheese cutters...but it wont be like that for long
Image
Image

it was time for some extra light at the rear because i cant see shit through the 3 layers of glass out the rear window coz of the canopy, so i rigged up a HELLA twin beam worklight to come on with the reverse lights...forgetting how to wire up a relay i blew about 6 fuses in the process of fitting this  its powered by the AUX battery to btw

i also bought off ebay a BOGAARD TT, i spoke to the best auto elecy i know and he said you can get the remote central locking to work when the tt is working but it involves tricking the immobiliser into thinking the key in not in the ignition and to do this it involves relays and diodes, so i decided that this is to complicated and exspensive to worry about

Image

future plans for the lux are obviously going to be a suspension lift so i can fit the 33's
ive being and spoken with the boys at superior engineering in burpengary and they are going to fit a 3inch bilstein lift with diff drop and dobinson coils....they are most likely going to just ditch the coil out of the rear but they are going to see if they can find another coil that they can make work with the lift....they are booked out til the 19th April 2011 so thats when i booked myself in, so only like 3 weeks now and i will be bolting the new rubber on :D :D

Going to be a great ute mate. Just wondering what superior said about your 33 not rubbing? I get my new extra cab this week and want to get 33 MTZ on it and was looking at the same lift from them.

superior said they will rub but only on hard full lock...ive got another thread going about fitting 285 with a 20p offset and a member called blownlux is running this and he put up pics of where his is rubbing on the UCA and sway bar...worth a look...

Sound like it's gonna be a epic Hilux build mate, it's amazing how much mundosh you can throw at the lux hey, but the end result is so worth it 8-)

alrighty yesterday i got around to modifying my XROX bar (that i am yet to bolt up)
as people who have one will know, when u put one on you lose your forward facing indicators and parkers that come with the factory toyota bullbar...so i 'borrowed' some hella LED clearance lights out of the store room at work and made up a little plate for each wing to mount them too, pretty easy mod with hopefully a different effect and visual appeal...

so heres a close up, i just clamped the wires of each light with the portable jumpstart pack we had lying round
Image

another
Image

and from a few meters away..they look the same colour in the pic, but theyre definately not
Image

ALLLLLso when i got home i decided to stick my weather shields on...Ebay spec front and rear $79 with free delivery, bargain...couldnt stand having water pour in the window with the slightest bit of rain
Image

Image

there we go so far....

should be fitting the bar this weekend, cant wait to see how stupid its gonna look at standard height with SR wheels and 225/70r16's :D

Mate what did you want the little lights on the bar for anyway?

But I do agree, will be looking pretty gay untill you got some height and rubber ;)

Love that bar work... some ideas for myself when I get mine on shortly... Great work...

How'd those rims go but? 20P with 33's will be a tight fit methinks..
