The shafts arent too difficult to replace, its a matter of having the right tools with you when you go wheeling so you can change it on the side of the track....you'll get it swapped over within half an hour....so while your mates are having a few cans or a smoke or two laughing at your misfortune you will swap it over.

Yes i definately will be carrying around spare cv's from now on, will have at least 1 usable complete cv at all times! Will also need to make up a tool bag with a few bits and peices so i have everything that is needed to do minor repairs out bush. I already carry a little, but should have more!
At the moment, no i dont have all the knowledge i need to change a cv out confidently, hopefully when i get all this changed out i can stay there with my mechanic and give him a hand, watching how it all happens!
Than next time we are at Lithgow and when Kyle or Mick snap or pop out a cv, i can sit there, drinking cans and tell you boys how to do it all

But honestly i think it would be very wise for anyone with a hilux doing 4wd'ing to always carry a spare cv!!

Its pretty easy to do, did my first one on my mates front lawn lol just basic hand tools. Another good trick if you break one out bush you can remove it. leave the inner in the diff cut the inner boot, do the same to the outer cv and pull the shaft out. The outer spline has a nut holing it in the hub, and the inner cup will stay in the diff. Saves doing a whole change on a track, get home and do it in the shed !!
Im not stuck..... Im thinking

We should make a "how to change a damaged cv" thread, and include all the tools and hints you need ;)

Sounds like a good idea. You can then take a photocopy of it and keep it in the glovebox and pray that you never have to take it out again.
On the internet you can be anything you want. It is strange that so many people choose to be stupid!

See Jack there is always something positive to come out of a negative everyones trying to print off mmaaxxs instructions and its all thanks to you. Youve helped the hole hilux community in Aust and abroad by your misfortune.
I make a motion that we all by Jack a beer at some point.

I can see the positive of it all, I now get to learn how to change out a complete cv, and I also get to change over all my suspension to REKON and gain a little more height all at the same time :) .

But just the way it all happened wasnt the best, and also timing because I have rego and insurance all due this month too :(

But I like your 'motion' Kyle, I will definately have to keep you to that one!!

Re: Jack's Lux: Bridal Track Camp

Postby Jack S on Sat, 18 Jun 2011 4:56 +0000

After all the dramas of the long weekend of doing that damage. I did get a few pictures, they are nothing exciting but a few none the less!

Where i am standing (i am taking the picture) is where we camped on saturday night, we didnt get the till just before dark as we stopped at Hill End and had a few beers! But this area last year was all clean and easy to drive through, this year after all the rain and floods that happened, we could still drive through but was little more cluttered, this was the destruction that took place with all the dead trees, there would definately have been a massive volume of water run through....

And a pic of our camping area, nothing special just a fire, couple of swags, 2 tarps and the all important eski, is all we had..

Just a few random ones! Sorry guys but no action shots, i think my mate has some on his phone that i will have to get off him...

My mates hilux there is bit of a monster, its a 1991 single cab hilux, with a holden v6, twin locked, currently on 33" tyres (but wants to get 35" claws), not sure what lift is under it but i have a feeling its 6". (wish he wasnt such a p***y when wheeling it  )

Also at the Hill End pub we were outside having a chat and throwing down some schooners when we noticed this on the kids menu

Re: Jack's Lux: MASSIVE news

Postby Jack S on Fri, 24 Jun 2011 6:43 +0000

Well here is the news, Matty sent us a pretty big package and i recieved it this week, here it was:

Image

The fitting of it all was all pretty good, except was a pain in the ass getting the struts in! DAM them things are long and beefy, but how dam good are they? Extremely happy with it all and once the struts 'settle in' they should hopefully be sweet! Anyway we got them in set at the lowest setting, so from the middle of the wheel to the flare is about 610mm, which should drop down a bit over next couple of days, and will end up with about 4" lift, which is what a wanted!!
We fitted the control arms with uni ball joint and these things are great, such a simple design, and even my mechanic said they were awesome! CV's are all fitted up and look pretty good, though i guess time will tell to see how they hold up with everything. Than came the new diff brackets, we got the old one off and it was definately bent, chucked the new ones on and they are definately stronger, well look it anyway. So once again my angles are good! I also have the engine guard to suit, i will give this a coat of paint tomorrow and fit it all up... Got the alignment booked in for tuesday!
So all in all very happy man today, well extremely happy actually :!:

Also and here is the MASSIVE NEWS, ive scored myself a "4wd custom guide" shoot, front page and everything! It will be in number #46, so about 2 months away but i have the shoot monday week hopefully :D
Plan is: i need to meet them down in sydney at "West End Deisel" for a shoot there, the company is have an article in the mag and ill be part of that shoot, while i am there hopefully i can score a dyno run and a custom tune up :D .
From there the photo people will follow me back to lithgow and we will get some action shots somewhere for my own spread. Definately excited and pumped for the next few weeks
