Started this thread for discussions related to Dobinsons Suspension. We have no real thread in the suspension forum dedicated to this topic..
Please feel free to ask your questions on this thread and put down any experiences that may help out other members with the queries about this topic.

yes i would like to know what people think about the dobinson brand?

running 2 inch lift dobinson on my extra cab very happy with it comfortable on road and on dirt as well

Can't comment on the Dobinsons hilux kits, but have had two custom sets of there leaf springs in my FJ40 (4" lift). The service from the guys in Rockhampton was excellent, and both sets of springs have been fantastic!

I have got the dobinson 65mm( i was told it was 65mm, mayby 50mm after sag/time ) lift kit, with uprated springs n shocks to suit bullbar/winch, dual batt, carry all my shite n tow a poptop camper. also came with extended brake line......
The intent with this setup was to provide a good distance tourer thats capable offroad with all my gear and can be used to carry loads as needed round town

Handles well onroad (it's no sports car), a bit stiff offroad (so i crawl over rough stuff, sand tracks no problems) but i haven't fitted a bullbar,winch or dual batt. yet so it will probably ride better with those things fitted. Also haven't gone out loaded up either which would help the rearend. Bullbar next!

Update : have seen action pics of a recent trip n it all flexs well n does it's job while empty, will have to try loaded up next.....

Given that the Dobbinsons kit gives 65mm in the front, a little more than the 40mm which most people recommend to keep the CV's intact, has anyone had any issues with CVs with this kit installed.

ive got a 3" lift the uses a set of dobinsons coils....no problem in 65,000km....touch wood.

How does dobinson pull in price wise?

ARB quoted me around $2,100 for their 2" kit, and another 4wd shop here in Perth quoted me $1,850 for the Dobinsons kit. Prices are probably higher than what you could get them for on the east coast, in the West these things appear to come at a premium.

hey guys, what is the part number for the 65mm springs? is this just the front or do they do 65mm rear aswell? also anyone running dobinson shocks, are they anygood?

I'm running the full kit springs and struts! it has performed well on/off road a little softer than my previous King/Bilstein set up but i'm pretty sure it's running higher too. I'll try and get some part numbers for you after work today.

I have the Dobinson's 65mm lift. It was fitted by Pro Axle at Narellan. The Hilux handles extremely well now on road. Off road capability has improved dramatically as I also fitted BFG's A/T tyres. I am very happy with the setup and I was also impressed with Dobinson's service during the purchase.

Sorry RocketRyder Can't give the part# your after( can't find receipt) but as an update my lux is sitting at 750mm at the front (( without 50mm VMN Bodylift )bottom of 16" rim to guard) after about 9 months n adding a steel winch bar with no winch, it's not a daily but gets used most W/ends offroad, has sagged about 30mm as far as i can find with seaches on standard V's moddified hieghts over that time with use n abuse, still drives well onroad but scraping bash plate now where it didn't before bullbar......
Front end was setup to run winchbar with winch n dual batts. Might look at next size up springs, Heavey duty V's Medium duty........

hey Skog that strange....... did a search and came up with a few models from the Dobinson site and the springs for the font that are made for winch and bar are the C59-302 50 -100 kg's of accessories apparently give 50mm of lift and they are the heavy duty, i hope these arn't the ones you got and still sagged! i'm assuming these are the ones that give the 65mm of lift?

Have a look at the Tough Dogs HD front springs. They don't seem to have sagging issues with the weight on my front end (50 kg over axle weight. Oops , did I say that?)

yeah cheers, as yet i have never heard a bad word about tough dogs, and my mate had them on his 04 lux and gave them such a hammering and they just kept coming back for more... but these like the kings (which i sold to a mate) both only give you 50mm in the front, so it looks like either the Dobbinsons with 65mm or the ironmans with 75mm, which i think might be a little to much mixed with the body lift...... not and it only has to last a couple of years till i'm willing to hack her up and put a SAS under.

Dane, I got a lot more out of my TD's then 50mm. I think it was about 78 mm from stock with bar and winch fitted to stock suspension. You might be able to get a couple of the 5mm OME plastic spacers which I think are about $5 each. That will take you up to pretty much the maximum lift. That was something Max and I thought I could just get away with when we compared eyebrow heights. Anyway, you are down the Gold Coast, maybe you can get Kings to make what you want!
