Alby,
As you can see in one of the pictures, the grooves are painted.

That explains it

Yeah..... I will have to get additional grooves if I want to push the front up.

Alby, could you take a few close up pictures of the grooves on your Billies?

Brendon, I have no idea then why you have not got much lift out of your setup other than the additional grooves you have are closer to the originals.

Or you guys have funny measuring tapes over there ??

Team, reviving an old thread.

Now that most have had their Bilstein setup in for a significant period of time, how are you finding it? Im looking to upgrade the suspension on my lux in the near future and am seriously laying out the extra $ for some billies.

My ute has the following
ARB deluxe steel bar with winch, dual batteries, alloy tray, 70L under tray water tank (soon to be fitted).
Aiming for a 50mm lift. Ute is my daily driver and usually unladen. Setting up for touring and beach use.

From the 4WD Driect website and from talking to Lovells this is the kit im thinking of putting together.
http://www.4wddirect.com.au/cgi-bin/sho ... tegory=TH4

Bilstein front struts $495
Bilstein rear shocks $400
Lovells HD Raised front springs TL-118HD $165 (wire dia 20mm, rate 984 lb/in - what Lovells reccomended)
Lovells HD raised rear leaves TL-60HD $630 (again, what Lovells reccomended) includes bush kit and rear brake bias kit
Greasable shackles $70
TOTAL $1765 (includes shipping)

I would appreciate the groups experiences and wisdom.

Cheers
Dave

Dave,

I couldn't be happier, no issues at all, I have the front and rear Bilsteins and as mentioned I used the STD springs with extra groove up front and reset STD springs at the rear with an extra leaf.

It rides well and handles much better than before. With 31" tyres on, the front sits at 890mm to the bottom of the flare and the rear sits at 960mm to the bottom of the flare. I have a very heavy 30kg second battery, ARB bar with 8000lb winch, rear canopy and outback drawers.

You won't be dissapointed with the bilsteins.

Steve.

went and did some quick measurements

with the std 16' wheels and tyres, from the lower rim lip to the front flare is 690mm. i have a dropside rear tray so measurements can not be easily compared.

batman are you measuring from the ground or from the lower rim edge?

Ok I'm heading down the path of Billies on all corners with king HD springs up front, rear toyota leaves reset and add a leaf. My question is where can i get this done around Parramatta area. and what price am I looking at.

Is it worth fitting it myself or getting them to install it.

Cheers

Jiggins,

If you have a set of spring compressors there is no reason you can't do it yourself if you are reasonably mechanically minded. Not sure of who could fit them for you but there are plenty of online places to get them from, I know that TJM stores can get them in for you. By no means am I an expert but I needed some work done while in Sydney a fair while ago and from memory there is a pretty good four wheel drive workshop in Seven Hills is that too far away? I think they are called Total Care 4x4.

The prices mentioned above by Daveo are pretty close to what you should pay.

Has anyone looked at buying these from the US. The following site sells them at a very good price, but the part numbers are different. http://www.eshocks.com/bil_veh.asp?Mode ... &SubChar=Q
Would be around $700 delivered. Its only $200 more to buy locally so for that price difference local support may be worth it.

Unless you get a lot of pleasure out of doing it yourself ( and have a lot of time to spare) I would pay someone to do it, they have all the right gear for the job (HD spring comprssors etc) and you have recourse if there is a problem. The install prices for this stuff is usually reasonable.

BTW. Done 70 k on my Billies and no problems :D
