I know its another suspension topic but it could be a valuable one.

Going through a thought process on how i can improve my med OME rear suspension.
Have got 3 options
1. ipgrade to the constant 400kg ones
2. add extra leaf to med ones

But another option that i have just found out is that i can reset my med ones by reseting the load one to make it handle the load better.
A spring place can do this.

This I think is a option what could be a good idea.
Has anyone done this, anyone got any thoughts

David, I spoke to this guy ages ago, http://www.baysidesprings.com/ he resets springs and believes the origional toyota leaf spring is better than any aftermarket.

He will reset your old origional springs to suit your load.

I'm not happy with my rear King springs and have fitted airbags to assist when loaded up.

The back of my ute seems to bounce alot off road and wonder if the bags contribute to the problem.

Bloody hard to climb a hill with the rear wheels spending half the time in the air!!

I've been thinking of giving him a go, if he can set the spring to work across a reasonable load range and maintain a bit of lift without being to harsh when "empty" if you know what I mean.

Then I can take the airbags off. One less thing to go wrong when away from home.

I had my suspension reset to give a 30mm lift (I lifted the front 65mm, and wanted it to look level).
As I don't carry much load (only camping gear when camping) I didn't need any extra load carrying capacity.
I would recommend resetting for a low load situation.

as mentioned in previous conversations Dave, Ive had my rear factory springs reset bout 2 inches higher than factory.

They work well, really comfortable, but I am in the near future going to go back to my mate to add an extra leaf to help assist in load carrying that little bit more and also get an extended shackle made up to raise the rear more again.

I had an extra leaf added and reset about 2 mths ago. Would recommend it. The suspension bloke I went to alo said the original leaf springs are just as good if not better than any aftermarket spring. Who knows, he may be right

if only we knew that reseting the original springs was a good idea then maybe i would not of got the full suspension.

Im thinking about reseting the OME ones.
Is this risky, has anyone done this

Mate, it would be worth you time to find a spring works where you live and take your truck and old springs to him to get some expert advice.

Wiegh your trucks rear both empty and loaded so he knows the range he has to work with.

I am now going to wiegh mine and send the springs to Bayside and see what he can do.

Youve got me keen to get the rear sorted.

why are you thinking about reseting the original toyota springs.
Wouldn't it be worth to use the better aftermarket springs & then reset them.

Talked to a couple of spring places & they wont me to pop in.
I will go there during the week and see what they say

He reckons the OEM ones are better, as theyr'e in the shed its easier to send them.

This has been an option for a long time. I can recall this about 20 years ago. The only down side I ever heard of is the spring starts to sag again back to normal. I could be outdated in my info though.

I added an extra think leaf and reset mine. It's great when I got 800kg in the back but when out 4wding she gets up on 3 wheels pretty ezy. Not a lot of flex. But it looks cool haha

Sorry for digging up and old post but i'm in the process of doing this and my question is do you loose down travel by re-setting the oem springs to example. an inch higher with extended shackles? or would you greatly benefit getting aftermarket leaves?

Just looking for some opinions on my rear suspention I currently have factory springs with a extra leaf added but now I have a canopy and water tank and other gear it's sitting very level and will be sagging in the rear a little loaded I was thinking 2 inch extended shackles will do the job or would I be better off to reset the rear springs without the extra leaf and then and add the shackles.
Also pretty sure I will have to extend the break lines because it will be around 4 inch lift in the rear.
Any thoughts.
