Well mate if you go back to the first post in this thread where I said (as RodW before I changed my name by deed poll and forum sponsorship) I would do something different to OME. They might have improved over time.

IF all you want to run is 265/75/16, any 2" lift will do. If you want to push the envelope there is good advice offered already.

Ive fitted +2" dobinsons coils into stock struts(for the time being) today to my 07 SR dual cab, very happy with the results and the guys at dobbinsons sydney, pulled me out of the shit again when,I relised I couldnt compress the springs so they did it for me at the drop of a hat. Thanks marty....

Now for some bigger wheels and tyres.

Will put some photos up in the next couple days.

Hi Guys,

I've got a 2" inch lift in the front and rear and the front end is lower by 70mm to the rear. I was looking around at wat i could do to lift the front to the same level as the rear, i dont really want to go down the lines of using strut spacers after seeing photo's of what can happen. I was thinking maybe of sticking 3" lift in the front, what would be the best brand to use or is there any other way of doing this lift?

What brand of 2" lift have you already fitted mate and how long have you had the kit for?
But you have to remember that the rear of the lux is already about an inch higher than front anyway...

Hi all I'm getting my hilux lifted next week and until now was thinking dobinson springs in the front and dobinson shocks all round i will worry about the rear springs at a later date
What are people's thoughts on dobinson shocks compared to bilstein I have heard they are a little harsh/ stronger.

only as far as the courier can get too mate.

8-)

anyway, heres a pic for those that might not know what Rob and I are talking about, its the Desert Fox 3 inch raised Foam cell strut -

After fitting the ARB bar and the front end sagging, got me mate to make up another ring that goes at the bottom of the strut on the lower shaft - 15mm spacer equals 30mm lift so now it sits just over 3inches-

By the way, thought Id post up what the front end of a TRD hilux looks like aswell -

Different brands do have different ways of modifying them to get that little bit more. Bilstein have the "groove thing" 8-)
and you can always just get a 2 inch front strut from ARB or the like and then get somebody to fit a 35mm Snake Racing strut spacer.

or go the whole hog, expensive hog mind you, and get a snake racing or Ultimate suspension drop bracket lift to get 3.5 or 4 inches with factory CV angles.

Then again, you can get REALLY illegal and import from USA EBAY a Pro-Comp 6 inch drop bracket lift that would allow you to run 35/12.5x16's with no rubbing at all, even when coming off an airborne landing!!!!

others care to chime in 8-)

Just wanted to bring up an old thread and find out some more info on the adjusting ring used on some front struts can someone please explain in detail how it works. Cheers

Hi guys I'm new to the hilux scene. I have been doing research into a front lift on my 2008 hilux. I have looked into ome but I rung opposite lock in Newcastle during week and swore on a combination of dobinson springs and bilstein shocks were the way to go. I'm only looking at around a 50mm lift what are thoughts on using these two combinations?
Cheers

Hey mate I'm pretty sure it was $895 fitted for the front and he said If I wanted to do the hole lot it would be around $2100 - $2200 mark

Just my two cents but I had dobinson coils in the front that didn't hold up very well only lasted a few months.
As for opposite lock they will sell what they stock just like all other retailers but I have heard good things about the struts.
The fact that they can be rebuilt is not the be all and end all as I was told it can take a few weeks turn around and cost up to $300 ???????
Happy to be corrected if I'm wrong

Ultimate will do a strut made up to your exact needs, which includes valving the shock to suit accesories and selecting a spring to match, that will work and feel better than an off-the-shelf jobby.

viewtopic.php?f=42&t=9380

Not sure what he charges for installation, but they are $700 for a pair of 2" lifted struts pre-assembled, you could always have a crack at installing them yourself.

After lifting the front 2" you will need to get a wheel alignment as the geometry will be out.

Cheers,
Aaron
